Water damage to the charger or voltage converterany of these is not covered by the warranty.

Intended use

The MEGASONEX® toothbrush is designed for daily home use with a toothpaste of your choice. It can easily be used by individuals with braces, crowns, implants, veneers and restorations (fillings) and is intended to be used to fight gingivitis and plaque formation which often lead to gum bleeding and recession, calculus and caries (cavities). Note that the MEGASONEX® toothbrush emits therapeutic ultrasound, not electromagnetic radiation such as that used by mobile phones or metal detectors.

Charging your toothbrush

Plug the cord into the charging base and the voltage converter into an electrical outlet. When you place the handle of the brush into the charging base, the power indicator light on the handle will start to pulse red when the battery is fast charging. The pulsing red light will turn solid white when it is about 70% charged. It will then trickle charge to 100% for up to 18 hours. After this point, the white light will turn off and the brush will stop charging during the next 30 hours in order to save electricity. Afterwards, the brush will wake up and may start charging again. It cannot be overcharged since the battery will stop accepting a charge when full.

Taking the brush in and out of the charging base will reactivate the charging mechanism and the 18-hour timer. Keeping the brush in the charger after the white light goes on will not damage the brush.

The MEGASONEX® toothbrush should be charged immediately after purchase for 18 hours prior to first use and, whether used or not, must be charged at least every two months thereafter. Failure to do so may cause permanent damage to the battery and void the warranty.

A full charge on a new battery should last for approximately 2840 three-minute uses. As with all batteries, over time the capacity will decrease, lowering the number of uses per charge. Even though we use latest generation memory-free batteries, to prolong the life of any battery, we recommend that every few months you discharge your toothbrush completely before recharging it for the full 18 hours.

The voltageUSB power converter is designed to accept 100-240V AC, 50-60Hz. When traveling overseas an appropriate adapter plug is all that is required.

Note: Do not place the charging base on a metallic surface when charging.

Your charger can also be used to hold your toothbrush on the countertop without the cord.

Attaching brush heads

Grasp the upper section of the brush head with one hand. With the other hand, twist the lock on the neck of the brush head in the direction of the arrow about a one-eighth turn to the right. Align the brush head above the wand of the brush handle so that the bristles are on the same side as the button. Slide the brush head over the wand until the locking ring rests on the brush handle. Twist the lock on the brush head opposite to the direction of the arrow about a one-eighth turn to the left to lock it in place.

Removing brush heads

Grasp the upper section of the brush handle with one hand. With the other hand, twist the lock on the neck of the brush head in the direction of the arrow about a one-eighth turn to the right. Slide the brush head off the wand gently. Please be sure to unlock the brush head lock before you try to remove the brush head. Failure to do so can result in physically breaking the brush handle, which is not covered by the warranty. To ensure that brush heads remain easy to take off, remove them every few days to clean buildup off the locking mechanism and wand. For brush heads that become difficult to remove, we recommend first running warm water over the brush head lock to soften any toothpaste buildup.

Brushing instructions

For optimal performance, your MEGASONEX® toothbrush should be fully charged. Follow these simple steps to maximise the effectiveness of your brushing:

  1. Wet the bristles under running water and place toothpaste on the brush head. To ensure even and thorough brushing, mentally divide your mouth into six sections.
  2. Position the bristles in the back section of your bottom teeth angled 45° into the gumline and turn the brush on. Hold the toothbrush handle with a light grip. Avoid scrubbing or pressing too hard on the tooth surface to the point where the bristles bend. Move the brush in small circular motions so the bristles and fluid penetrate between each tooth. Try to keep as much fluid around the bristles as possible. Gently move the brush covering all surfaces of each tooth starting from the buccal (cheek) side, then the occlusal (biting) side (in the case of the back teeth), and then the lingual (tongue) side. Spend a few seconds on each tooth and then move the brush to the next tooth. Spend extra time gently working the bristles into the periodontal pockets where plaque collects below the gumline. Ask your dental professional for help in identifying these areas.
  3. After 30 seconds you will be prompted to move to the next section. Continue for a total of 3 minutes until you have covered all the teeth. Afterwards, the toothbrush will turn off by itself.

Teeth whitening

The MEGASONEX® toothbrush will help to remove fresh surface stains. However, no toothbrush can significantly remove deep staining of enamel or discolouration of the dentine from years of neglect that may require professional whitening.

Selection and replacement of brush heads

Nearly all dentists now agree that brushing with a hard bristled toothbrush can damage tooth enamel and irritate the gums, which can lead to gum recession. This is why they recommend gentle toothbrushes. Therapeutic ultrasound is extremely gentle… so gentle that it is impossible to see or feel its action. However, hard bristles can negate this beneficial effect. This is why we offer a choice of four different kinds of brush heads: soft and medium, with either flat-top or sawtooth bristles.

Our brush heads are designed to maintain their shape and effectiveness for approximately two months of regular use, depending on personal habits.

Speed selection

The device can be used in one of three modes:

  1. Ultrasound plus gentle sonic vibration (press button once)
    • Ultrasound at 1.6MHz
    • Sonic vibration at 18,000 movements per minute
  2. Ultrasound plus extra-gentle sonic vibration (press button twice, a half second apart)
    • Ultrasound at 1.6MHz
    • Sonic vibration at 9,000 movements per minute
  3. Ultrasound only (press button three times, a half second apart)
    • Ultrasound at 1.6MHz
    • No sonic vibration (except as timer interval prompt)

The blue light indicates when ultrasound is being emitted.

Cleaning and maintenance

Every few days, remove the brush head and clean the body of the brush with a damp soapy cloth. Remove the soap residue with a clean damp cloth. It is not a good idea to completely immerse in water, even though the parts have been factory sealed to prevent water penetration.

Periodically clean the charging base by first disconnecting it from the voltage converter and then cleaning with a damp cloth. Be careful not to saturate or immerse the charging base into water. Let completely dry.

Each time after brushing, it is a good idea to rinse your brush head in cold clean water, to shake off excess moisture and to dry the bristles and brush handle with a clean towel, pinching the bristles together in the process.

Keep away from sunlight or UV sanitisers as UV light can cause plastic to yellow with time, which is a cosmetic change not covered by the warranty.

Recycling

The toothbrush contains a high quality NiMH battery that should serve for many years. Any service of the toothbrush and battery removal can only be done by an authorised MEGASONEX Repair Centre. Opening the toothbrush or any attempt to modify or repair it by unauthorised personnel will break the waterproof seals and will void the warranty. At the end of its serviceable life, the entire brush should be discarded per your local disposal regulations for electrical devices.
